Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning
The thing we call as "
multimedia learning" happens when representations of words and pictures are built mentally. We select (using ears and eyes) words and pictures from multimedia presentation and these are organized in our working memory into verbal and pictorial models which are intergrated with our prior knowledge. This theory is based on three assumptions. The
dual-channel assumption which states that us humans have two seperate channels that processes sounds and images, the
limited capacity assumption which states that we have a limit to process given information and the
active processing assumption which states that we do not learn just by absorbing information passively.
